The Kumovis R1 (now marketed as the EXT 220 MED by 3D Systems) is a high-performance industrial 3D printer specifically designed for the medical sector and the additive manufacturing of implants.

Key features:

• Technology: Fused Layer Modeling (FLM) / Fused Filament Fabrication.
• Sterile environment: It is the only extrusion platform that integrates a clean/sterile environment with thermal control and laminar airflow to prevent any contamination during printing.
• Compatible materials: Designed to process high-performance and biocompatible polymers such as:
• PEEK and PEKK
• PPSU (Radel®)
• PEI, PLLA, PLGA, PCL, PDO

Evolution:

• Originally developed by the German start-up Kumovis (founded in Munich), the technology was integrated into 3D Systems' portfolio and renamed EXT 220 MED.
